WHEN AND WHERE WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU TOOK PART IN CARNIVAL?

My first carnival was in Europe. Berlin 2005 or 2006 I think. That was a small t-shirt band with just a few masqueraders and no security. However, my first taste of Caribbean Carnival was in Barbados 2012. I remember there was a lot of rain and this made the vibes on the road sick! I can't forget the J'ouvert (fore-day morning)......OH LAWWWD!....What a crucial experience for me.

WHICH BAND DID YOU PLAY WITH?

Sorry but I don't remember. I do remember that my first band in Trinidad was Island People. I played mas with them two years in a row.

DESCRIBE YOUR COSTUME IF YOU CAN REMEMBER?

My first costume I remember was all yellow. The yellow details, arm-straps, leg-straps and a chest piece, were inspired by the American Indians. The yellow shorts were really thin and the head-band didn't fit me very well. It was a good costume but nothing extra-ordinary.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE TUNE THAT CARNIVAL?

From Berlin, it was 'A Cyan Wait' - Shurwayne Winchester and 'Max It Up' - Destra.

And from Barbados 2012, 'I Like Muhself' - Lil Rick

WHAT’S THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF THIS DAY?

Mind-Blowing! I fell in love with Soca years before but from that moment, Carnival took an important place in my life.

HAVE YOU BEEN BACK TO BERLIN OR BARBADOS?

Yes. I've been back numerous times both to Berlin and Barbados. Barbados has become my second home. I love the vibes, music and people on this beautiful island.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE CARNIVAL?

My home carnival is Berlin. The most impressive carnival is Trinidad and my favourite is Barbados.

ANY CARNIVALS ON YOUR AGENDA FOR 2020?

Yes. The schedule is Trinidad, Berlin and Rotterdam for this year.

DO YOU HAVE ONE PARTICULAR CARNIVAL YOU’RE STILL DREAMING TO ATTEND ONE DAY?

St. Vincent and Miami are on my bucket list.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE MEN WHO ARE SCARED TO WEAR A COSTUME?

Free your mind and go beyond personal borders. You will get the maddest experience you'll ever have, full of culture, music, rum and unity.....get up and join!

Let us together show the world that race, color, or any other divisive idea cannot and will not ever triumph over love, respect and equality for all.
