Bajan living in Germany WHEN AND WHERE WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU TOOK PART IN CARNIVAL?

1998 in Barbados  WHAT'S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CARNIVAL EXPERIENCE AS A MASQUERADER?

Every carnival has its unforgettable moments….but I guess the first is always special. It was also the year that the band I was in literally “mash up de stage” and it collapsed! WHICH BAND DID YOU PLAY WITH?

Power x Four DESCRIBE YOUR COSTUME IF YOU CAN REMEMBER?

The colours were orange and white and the section was depicting “Bridgetown Market” which is a street fair that is held the Friday to Sunday before Kadooment Day. Can’t quite remember the full design but I remember it covered a lot more body area than the costumes we wear now :) WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE CARNIVAL TUNE AT THAT TIME?

I think it was Lil Rick’s  “Down Behind De Truck”.

WHAT’S THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF THIS DAY? Having a phenomenal time with my friends. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU WISHED YOU KNEW BEFORE TAKING PART? The importance of going to the gym a few months before - not to lose weight but to combat the muscle soreness that comes two days after the jump :) and the fact that I would inevitably lose a toe nail even though my shoes were comfortable! BETWEEN JOUVERT, MONDAY AND TUESDAY, WHAT IS YOUR FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD BEST EXPERIENCES? 1. Foreday Morning (Barbados’ version of jouvert) 2. Kadooment Monday 3. Alas we don’t yet have a Kadooment Tuesday in Bim

Island Mas Breakfast Party on the Sunday morning before Kadooment Day. In earlier years it was at George Washington House - recently it has been at Ocean Park. BEFORE ALL OF THIS UNFORTUNATE COVID19 DRAMA STARTED, WHAT WAS YOUR INTENDED CARNIVAL AGENDA FOR 2020?

Rotterdam and Crop Over. DO YOU HAVE ONE PARTICULAR CARNIVAL YOU’RE DREAMING TO ATTEND ONE DAY? Vincy Mas! WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE SCARED TO WEAR A COSTUME? There are so many options that you can choose from. Find a design that makes you feel comfortable. For me, yes it’s nice to dress up in a pretty costume, but carnival is about more than the costume. It’s an experience, a celebration of a rich and vibrant heritage and an appreciation of life and love. Just embrace it!
